A getaway doesn’t need to take you far from home; there are plenty of local places such as Nectar Yoga BNB on Bowen Island. Just 15 minutes from Vancouver, all you need to refresh, recharge and refocus yourself is right there! This getaway was everything I needed and more!
I want to set the tone for you so, close your eyes! Picture this. You wake up at 7:30 am, roll out of bed. A big comfy bed that has afforded you one of the best nights sleep you’ve had in a long time. You freshen up after a wonderful nights rest and walk up a few lovely steps to this peaceful yoga dome. You stretch out on a yoga mat and melt into meditation. Meditation is then followed by yoga ending with savasana designed work all the areas that you specifically need working. Just as you bring back to life every muscle, every finger and every hair, Andrea the lovely owner of Nectar Yoga BNB brings you freshly made breakfast!
That sounds like heaven doesn’t it? This is life at Nectar Yoga BNB; it seemed far too good to be true! I reached out to Andrea and told her of my AtoZ Self-love Campaign. I crossed my fingers as I asked if she would have myself and 3 other moms attend on a 2-day retreat! These were moms like me, who were in desperate need of a getaway. To my delight, she said yes! We needed some time to refocus, reenergize and find ourselves, even if only for a moment. It had been far too long since I Janette was a person and not a wife, a mother, a responsible human being who had to consider others!
Nectar Yoga BNB for us was that place where we could fall apart, where we could be honest, where we could get lost and be found again! Andrea and her partner have created a little piece of heaven just 15 minutes from Vancouver! I would be lying if I didn’t say that I was incredibly tempted to uproot and move on over!
With two beautiful choices for your accommodations, Katherine from The Pampered Baby and I hunkered down in the Nectar Loft for two days while our beloved photographer Kristy Powers and Heydy from Raising Jay & Abel enjoyed the Forest Cottage! For two glorious days, we surrendered ourselves to Nectar Yoga BNB and the stillness that Bowen Island offers.
Originally when I began researching Nectar Yoga BNB, I knew this would be the perfect place for us. As stressed out mothers we all craved peace. We were all on a journey to find comfort in our similarities as mothers and additionally our struggles throughout the roller coaster ride of parenting. I looked to Nectar to see if there was a connection! In speaking about her and her partner’s world adventure, Andrea writes,
“We let go of our expectations, our timelines, our creature comforts, and everywhere we went, we found ourselves. At times it was uncomfortable, it was sad, it was blissful, it was lonely, it was awesome, it was every human emotion, just like life. And through our understanding of ourselves, we knew upon returning home, we wanted to make a life change. This change had to include space, meditation, yoga, giving, receiving, ocean, and clean air to name a few.”
This was our life in a nutshell. Though we were not going on a world adventure, we were looking for much of the same things! We needed to refocus, to rejuvenate and refresh ourselves. We started each day with a beautiful meditation followed by Yoga and stretching. The very first day we discussed briefly our level of activity, our bodily needs and what we were looking for in this 2-day retreat!
After our hour-long yoga and meditation each day, we received freshly made breakfast! Day one being delicious waffles topped with fresh blueberries grown right on the property, along with local coffee and organic milk and cream. To say that we ate like queens is putting it lightly. Each day began wholesome, great food, great energy and we began each day ready to face those feelings and make changes.
In the evenings, we sat, discussed and we simply connected. We talked about where we had been, how we were struggling and the changes we needed to make to get where we wanted to go! One of the things Andrea had mentioned to us was about wanting success and our desire to have it RIGHT NOW; we gave each other a new perspective. We listened to each other, we laughed at each other and we slowly began to feel much like a person again. Not just a mother, a wife, a caretaker, a nurse, a chauffeur, a chef and all the other roles we play in our day. We submerged feeling like our own person again. It was incredible to give in to Bowen, a place I’d never been, and find Janette again!
I quote this directly from the website, I don’t think you can say it any better than how Andrea has it written. “Our goal is to provide a healing space for a weekend retreat or longer. A space that is easily accessible from city life, yet totally disconnected. A space that is simple, sustainable, conscious, and connected. ”
I cannot thank the girls and Andrea enough for this 2-day retreat. The meditation designed specifically for us, the delicious food and the incredible accommodations were exactly what we needed. It was perfection in all its glory and everything I imagined pure bliss to be! I don’t know that I could have sanely made it through the last few weeks without having had this experience. As I ventured back into busy life, my husband got a promotion, the blog succeeded, a toddling almost 2-year-old cut two new eye teeth, and a school-aged Ava continued us on her little spicy path of misbehaviours.
“You’ll go home feeling better, breathing deeper, and more in-tune.”
This incredible local gem is basically a hop, skip and a jump away from Vancouver! Time feels like it slows down there is definitely a different vibe there. If you haven’t been, I highly suggest making a point of putting it at the top of your Christmas wish list!
As Katherine says in her post HERE…”if you’re looking for a little R & R, some time for yourself, maybe a girls getaway like ours, definitely include Nectar Yoga B & B on your list. Believe me when I say you’re not the same when you leave as when you arrived. Just go there and be, whatever that means to you.”
